I would be grateful for donations of any size, small or large, to help defray the cost (1) of maintaining this website, (2) and to finance my past and present research which produced my book posted here, Volume One of "The Wound That Will Never Heal," and my forthcoming revision of Volume One (to be submitted for publication), and completion of Volume Two on Wagner's six other canonic operas and music-dramas. • Embryonic -- indicates that a motif initially occurs in a rather cryptic, premonitory form which has not yet attained a well delineated, easily identifiable "Definitive" form.

• Definitive --  the well delineated form of a motif, with a distinctive musical profile, which motifs acquire once they have attained the more or less fixed form in which they will be heard throughout the Ring after their initial occurrence. In practice, however, Wagner almost always varies each new occurrence of a motif to reflect its dramatic and musical context.
